Day & Time: Thursday 12:30-1:40
Mentor: Jen Fletcher
Is your child interested in influencing their friends, society, politics, or culture? Many of our homeschool children are interested in being influencers and future leaders, and we want to help prepare them for that future. Influence and leadership are improved when using logic, wit, and calm assurance to present and argue ideas with power and persuasion.
In this year-long class, students will learn and practice Platform and Limited Prep speeches, along with either Team Policy or Lincoln Douglas debate formats (TBD). They will be developing research skills, broadening their knowledge base, and cultivating a gracious demeanor towards their opponent.
While we can’t see into the future and predict what will be allowed later in the year, it would ideal to be able to join a local Lions Club speech contest and/or meet with other homeschool Speech and Debate classes/clubs for some friendly competition if possible.
