Day & Time: Tuesday 10:15-11:25
Mentor: Sarah Bailey
Do you love all things fantasy? Do you love reading and writing fantasy, as well as creating your own fantasy world with maps, characters, stories, and art? If so, this class is for you!
In this class, we will read the first two books of the Narnia series and the first book of Fablehaven. We will learn about what was going on in England during World War II, why children were sent to the country, and how C.S. Lewis used that experience to send our heroes on a journey into another world. We will study symbolism, influences, geography, mythology, and themes throughout the first two books of The Chronicles of Narnia.
We will create our fantasy world, characters, geography, and themes. This will include drawing, character building, clay creations, costume design, making maps, and writing stories about this world.
In the second semester, we will read the first book of the Fablehaven series. We will see how to mix fantasy with our own world. We will dive into Kendra and Seth’s experience as they learn about magical creatures. We will fill our fantasy preserve with magical creatures, dangers, and obstacles that our heroes must overcome to reach their goals.
There is no need to purchase books for this class; we will read during class. If you love writing and art, this class is the perfect fit for you!
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
