Day & Time: Thursday 9:30-10:40
Mentor: Jamie Magda
Children are full of stories and bubbling over with big ideas; journaling is a fun, low-pressure, way to put those ideas into writing!
Unlike a formal essay or a book report, there are no set rules when it comes to journaling. These looser boundaries can actually teach writing more effectively than some other traditional forms. Students can be as creative, silly, and as expressive as they like. In fact, journal writing helps students develop their explanatory skills, practice self-reflection, and solve problems in interesting ways. It is also a fabulous way to reinforce writing practice.
In this relaxed and motivating environment, we will brainstorm, discuss, write, and share our journal creations in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Each week we will have engaging lessons, story prompts, learn how to organize ideas, have time to write in class, and occasionally have assignments for writing at home. Students will study many genres of writing and be introduced to writing in a variety of styles. Journaling is a priceless skill that students can continue to use for the rest of their lives.
They will come to develop a love of writing!
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for
Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
