In the first semester of this class we will be discussing macro-economic concepts. That is, economic concepts on a large scale. We will discuss different economic systems, their strengths and weaknesses as well as basic concepts that run through all systems.
These topics will include:
- Opportunity Cost
- The role of Prices
- Inflation
- Capitalism
- Mercantilism
- Socialism
- International Trade
During the second semester of the class we will be discussing broad scale government topics. This will be a class to explore some of the political systems that have existed through history. We will discuss concepts within those systems as well as explore some political theory.
These topics will include:
- Feudalism
- Theocracies
- Democracy vs Republic
- Locke
- Hobbes
- Marx
Throughout both semesters the goal will be to give students a basic, fundamental understanding of these topics while allowing them to explore their own ideas about our political and economic world. My hope is that at minimum students will come away with a vocabulary to talk about these issues as they mature into adulthood.
All classes are full year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
