Around the World, is a dynamic and engaging course that takes students on a journey through different regions of the world, exploring their geography, history, and culture. Students will begin by reading Jules Verne's classic novel, "Around the World in 80 Days," and will use it as a framework to explore the places visited by the main characters.
With Frizzle and Master Jon at the helm students will embark on a series of adventures that will take them from the bustling streets of London to the remote mountains of Tibet, from the deserts of Egypt to the rainforests of South America; it will be more magical than two unicorns dining on chili lime corn on the cob. They will be encouraged to think critically and creatively, and to reflect on their own experiences and perspectives in relation to the places they are studying.
Throughout the year, we will journey through various countries and cultures, exploring what it means to be a human on this exciting and weird planet. Through presentations, readings, in class and at home writing assignments, students will dig deep into what makes humans human, and how where we live shapes who we are.
“What is memorized is easily forgotten, what is understood is never forgotten.” ~Dr. Adler
