This LEMI (Leadership Education) inspired class is to help students gain the scholar skills necessary for their lifetime academic journey and develop a love of learning.  Key of Liberty is split into two semesters.  In the first semester we work on our scholar skills using Early American History as our subject.  Students learn how to express their opinions by writing a series of four opinion papers. They learn how to study difficult documents in our document studies, how to give an outstanding presentation in class, how to read informative classics, and probably the most challenging and rewarding of them all, memorize the Declaration of Independence.  By the end of the first semester the students have gained a love and respect for the founders of our country and like the founders, they can do hard things.

We delve into Post Revolutionary War in the second semester and study the document which holds our country together, The Constitution of the United States of America.  We study its contents, the process of the American government, and how the new idea of our founders changed the world.  We continue to write papers, read books and give presentations.  In this semester students also learn the skill of test taking by completing three challenging quizzes on the Constitution.  By the end of this semester, the students have learned what they can do to increase and keep safe the freedom their founders secured for them.

At the completion of both semesters we hope to have inspired the students with a love of learning and the confidence with a foundation of knowledge, like their great founders, they can change the world.

Booklist is being reviewed and will be posted when finalized.

I utilize Google Classroom for all assignments, communications, online discussions, and updates so students will need a personal gmail account.  This makes it easy to refer to for homeschool teacher meetings, assignment details, due dates, and grades.

We recommend taking the Simulation class in Rocklin along with this class. Simulations are a great way to experience what you have learned about in class in a more interactive way. In this once a month class, we will recreate historical and hypothetical events to help students engage in the subject, learn from one another, and have an educational experience they will never forget. Planned simulations: Mayflower Voyage, Boston Tea Party, Declaration of Independence, American Revolution, Shay’s Rebellion, Constitutional Convention, and more!

All classes are full year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
