We have been telling stories since we could speak. We invented writing so we could memorialize those stories for future generations to read. Our language and society is structured around these stories we tell and read, shaping who we are and what we do. In this class, we will study literature from its foundations, focusing primarily on English texts, beginning with the Epic of Gilgamesh (world’s oldest known text), moving through the middle ages, and up through our modern time of Science fiction, Fantasy, and everything in-between.
