This will be an immersion learning class where students learn to stand up for their values respectfully, become leaders, and work with others. Students will study different types of arguments, biases, and fallacies to better understand and evaluate how these techniques are used in the media to sway our opinions. This will be accomplished by: studying what an argument is, how to recognize a fallacy, and analyzing student-found articles on current events from both sides of a debate. We will discuss many recent events, evaluate the arguments and conclusions, and defend ourselves while listening to others who think differently.

We will study how to master our emotions and practice this at home. Each student will need their own copy of Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves. There is a test at the back of the book that one person can only use once, so make sure to buy a new copy of the book.

The students will decide the subjects we discuss in class; some of the ideas that I have come up with are:

1. Health Care

2. Immigration

3. Global Climate Change

4. Religious Freedom

5. True Constitution vs. living document

6. Social Media

7. Different forms of Education

8. Sexuality

All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
