Ancient history is amazing, especially when we really look at and consider what these peoples created without what we consider modern technology. What could make learning about ancient cultures even more amazing is being able to build your own civilization! That’s exactly what this class is all about, utilizing the video game Minecraft to help us.
Each week will explore an ancient civilization, what made it thrive, what they valued, and what structures they built to establish the strength of their society. From ancient Greeks to the Mesopotamians to Aztecs and Mayans, we will explore the important symbolism and power behind each civilization’s temples, roads, and monuments.
Through utilizing the game Minecraft, students will learn what it takes to build their very own society inside the game, constructing monoliths, town centers, various homes, and all other structures that make up a prosperous ancient civilization. They will learn what makes cultures flourish, and how what civilizations build tell us about who they are and what they value.
***Every student will need a computer (or Nintendo Switch) with the video game Minecraft installed (version of the game is not important). We will be working in class as well as sharing our creations, so students will need to be able to bring their devices with them***
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
