Day & Time: Wednesday 1:45-2:55
Mentor: Angie Gardner
Who are you? Where does the World come from?
Philosophical problems and solutions are not merely the complex conundrums of dead academics. They are the very foundations of all of our opinions about human behavior: politics, morals, leisure, virtue, and value. Appreciation of this is a general objective of this class and will be achieved by the following more specific objectives:
Introduce you to philosophy and philosophical problems.
Develop your abilities to read, analyze, discuss, write about, and come to conclusions concerning philosophical problems.
Encourage you to think clearly and to be better equipped to formulate and revise your own opinions.
Delve into a brief history of philosophy.
We will read: Sophie’s World* which will provide us with a chance to experience and understand the flow of 2500 years of Western philosophy .
*I will provide on first day of class
I utilize Google Classroom for all assignments, communications, online discussions, and updates so students will need a personal gmail account. This makes it easy to refer to for homeschool teacher meetings, assignment details and due dates, and grades.
