Watch the world open up with the sky as the limit as your child acquires a love for reading!

Building reading skills is an essential part of a child's learning process. Even when children aren't specifically learning reading, they are constantly using these skills to learn other subjects. The skills we will focus on in this class are:

Decoding is the ability to translate written words into speech. It is the foundation for all other reading skills. Children will build on phonics and learn more advanced letter-sound matching skills to read longer, more difficult words. They will also learn word-attack strategies to break down unfamiliar or complex words into smaller parts. Over time, this skill will give them confidence and motivation to read even more.

Fluency is the ability to read 0naturally and smoothly, without having to stop to sound out words. Achieving fluency is a milestone children reach by developing strong decoding skills through a lot of practice reading.

Comprehension is the ability to understand what you read, and is the main goal of reading. Students will learn to visualize what’s happening in a story, identify with the characters, follow events in the story, and anticipate what’s going to happen next. They will learn to think and talk about what they read with others.

With these skills, the joy of reading may be achieved! I look forward to helping them acquire a love of reading.

All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
