“The history of the twentieth century is, again and again, the story of men who fight against tyrants, win the battle, and then are overwhelmed by the unconquered tyranny in their own souls.”  This book is about the cycle of history repeating itself again and again; from war to peace and back to war again.  Events that are important if we wish to understand the roots of how the modern world came to be. Critical thinking will be woven throughout the year as we compare & contrast differing views of historical events.

Each class will include a bit of a lecture about a chapter (or two) from the book and sometimes a short video will accompany the lecture.  Each student will be responsible for class participation, assigned homework as well as an oral presentation.

The book is required reading for the class.

Required Reading:

Story of the World vol.4 by Susan Wise Bauer is required reading for Grades 7-10.

Parental Option: class will be graded upon request.

We recommend taking the Simulations class along with this class. Simulations are a great way to experience what you have learned about in class in a more interactive way. In this once a month class, we will recreate historical and hypothetical events to help students engage in the subject, learn from one another, and have an educational experience they will never forget. We plan on having simulations on the Civil War, Stock Market Crash, WWI, WWII, spreading of a virus, and many more.

All classes are full year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
