This is as close as a student will get to a college-level course at high school. I teach this class much in the way I taught my Freshman English courses at BYU-Idaho, using the Socratic Method. I have found works to encourage students to work harder and gain more from their work. The class itself will teach students how to: critically analyze and discuss texts, understand and interpret complex and differing ideas; and write effectively about personal opinions supported through research. There will be three major essays throughout the year, with small writing assignments in-between. The class will be challenging, maybe the most challenging class students have yet to take, but worth every minute!
