Welcome to American Sign Language! This class is dedicated to the foundations of ASL, focusing on introductions and beginning words to communicate effectively with others. In this hands-on class we will learn introductions and beginning words to communicate needs, experiences, and feelings. Topics may include: animals, colors, food, letters, numbers, family, actions, weather, clothing, descriptions, nature, and school words.
Outcomes:
The expectation is for students to learn beginning American Sign Language vocabulary, practice communicating non-verbally, and be introduced to Deaf culture. They will discover how spacing, directionality, and facial expression affect communication.
Class Activities:
They will have the opportunity to participate in conversations, songs, movement, games, and circle time. There may occasionally be a related art project.
Students will participate and be helpful for their classmates, with the expectation students will be kind and cooperative.
