One of my greatest passions in life is bookmaking! As a published author for over 14 years, the book as an object for stories and poems has fascinated me. As we study various histories and cultures surrounding bookmaking, this class is going to take my love of books to the next level as we add in mixed media arts!
Throughout the class we will discuss the various histories and cultures surrounding bookmaking and contemporary art, how the two are separate, and how they can come together to create vibrant and intriguing pieces of work.
The majority of our time will be spent with hands-on experiences:
making books in a variety of styles
paper making
creating 3D pieces of art with various materials/mediums (such as paper, fabric, collage)
multimedia paintings
Students will learn tricks of the trade, the tools necessary in assembling a good kit for bookbinding and mixed media art, as well as tools students can make on their own. This will be an opportunity for students to expand their understanding of book production, art, contemporary mediums, as well as see the art world in a new light!
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
