College and Life Skills
Trying to figure what to do with our lives, as an adult, is at best difficult. On a good day. But trying to decide careers, college, and life as a high schooler, that is even more challenging. Learning the ‘big’ life lessons from multiple mistakes can be distressing at best. Doesn’t the saying go, “if only I knew then what I know now . . . .” Well, that’s exactly what this class is all about!
Outcomes:
The goal for this class is to help students look at their futures, and gain the skills and confidence necessary to make decisions that will set them up for success in college and beyond. We will examine a variety of career fields and what is required to be successful in those jobs, as well as all the steps in between. By the end of the year, my hope is students will have a course of action to take when they are ready to take now, that will help them find what they want to do with their futures!
Class Activities:
Along the way, students will learn basic life management skills as well, such as:
budgeting (which includes personal and business finance)
basic cooking and meal planning skills
writing resumes and cover letters
practice job interviews
starting their own business
Materials:
All materials will be provided.
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
