Creative Writing Workshop
Creative writing is about so much more than telling a fun story. It’s about connecting with characters. It’s about creating worlds previously unimagined. It’s about learning about oneself and others. Half a dozen studies have been done showing compassion and empathy increase in those who read fiction, and those numbers are increase even more when individuals are writing stories.
Outcomes:
This year we will focus on the elements of fiction writing: plot, character, setting, diction, syntax, tone, style, and voice. This class will challenge what students think writing is all about, but if they are willing, it will be the best class they take all year!
Class Activities:
Almost every week we will have a reading and writing assignment. Unlike other years for creative writing, this year we will focus on polishing and fine tuning longer pieces of writing, and learning how to submit for publication. This may include:
Poetry collections
Micro/Flash fiction collections
Short fiction (long form)
Novellas
Novels (for those who already have a passion for writing)
Materials:
notebook dedicated for this class
pen or pencil for taking notes
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
