Game On: Strategy, Mindset & Growth
Game On: Strategy, Mindset & Growth is an exciting, interactive course where students build real-world life skills through tabletop games, team competitions, strategy challenges, and cooperative play. More than just playing games, students learn how to think critically, communicate effectively, adapt under pressure, and work successfully with others.
This class encourages students to take risks, solve problems creatively, and develop resilience when faced with challenges. Using the mindset that FAIL means “First Attempt In Learning,” students will discover that growth comes through perseverance, reflection, and trying new strategies. Whether students are natural competitors, creative thinkers, quiet strategists, or team leaders, this course offers a fun and supportive environment where every student can grow in confidence, leadership, and decision-making skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Outcomes:
Develop strategic thinking and long-term decision-making skills
Strengthen teamwork, collaboration, and communication abilities
Build resilience and confidence when facing setbacks or challenges
Practice emotional regulation and positive sportsmanship
Improve problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Learn adaptability and flexibility in changing situations
Reflect on personal growth, successes, and mistakes
Gain confidence in leadership, creativity, and risk-taking
Build healthy peer relationships through cooperative activities
Develop a growth mindset and perseverance through challenges
Class Activities:
Students will participate in a variety of engaging experiences, including strategy board games, cooperative missions, logic and puzzle challenges, timed competitions, tournament play, and team-building activities. Lessons will include opportunities for students to analyze strategies, test creative solutions, and respond to changing game conditions in real time. Students will also engage in guided reflection discussions connecting gameplay experiences to leadership, communication, resilience, and personal growth. Activities are designed to encourage active participation, collaboration, respectful competition, and meaningful interaction while allowing students to practice both independent and team-based problem solving.
Materials:
Students should bring a notebook or binder for reflection activities, strategy notes, goal setting, and growth tracking. Optional donations of family-friendly or strategy board games may be accepted throughout the year, but are never required. Students should come prepared to participate actively, communicate respectfully, and approach challenges with a positive attitude and willingness to learn from both success and failure. Most games, supplies, and classroom materials will be provided by the instructor.
