Math Detectives (5th-6th)
 
Calling all Gumshoes!
 
The game is afoot at the Math Detective Agency – our cases are piling up, and we’re short on investigative detectives! We’ll be converting decimals to mixed fractions, determining whether a number is rational or irrational, and generally figuring out the Order of Operations. Join our team and help turn each case file from Mission Impossible to Case Closed. 
 
Outcomes:
This class is designed to help students master grade-level concepts and continue to gain skills, recognize real-world applications, and foster a more positive attitude toward learning math.
 
Class Activities:
Students will work individually and in small groups to investigate assigned sets of clues (math problems), which will help our class solve the weekly mystery. No homework will be assigned, but completed worksheets may be sent home to highlight concepts that have been covered. There will also be optional “Cold Case” worksheets available for students to solve on their own.
 
Materials:
No required supplies, but students may bring graph paper and a pencil they are comfortable using.
 
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
