Shakespeare for Kids
This class introduces students to Shakespeare through a blend of English, drama, and history. Students will learn who Shakespeare was, the historical context of his time, and why his work is still relevant today. They will explore selected scenes, sonnets, and excerpts while also acting out parts of the text to better understand meaning, language, and performance. Instruction will also focus on breaking down Shakespeare’s language and building confidence in interpreting literature that may initially feel challenging.
Outcomes:
By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of Shakespeare’s works and historical context, improved confidence in reading and interpreting complex texts, and experience performing short scenes. Students are expected to participate in class activities, engage in performances, and complete occasional at-home reading or memorization assignments.
Class Activities:
Scene performances, reading assignments, memorization of short passages, group activities, and guided literary analysis.
Materials:
Students will need a notebook, a pencil, and a highlighter. All additional materials will be provided in class and made available digitally when needed.
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
