Writers’ Workshop

Poetry: Teaching young writers about poetry fosters literacy skills, encourages creativity, and

helps them playfully explore emotions and language, ultimately enriching their

understanding of the world and themselves. Poetry can enhance reading comprehension,

phonemic awareness, and the ability to decode words.

Short Stories: Students will use organizational strategies to develop an original short story.

They will understand and implement the basic elements of a short story: plot, characters, and

setting. Students will improve both language and use of conventions in their creative writing.

Essay: An essay is a focused piece of writing designed to inform or persuade. There are many

different types of essays, but they are often defined in four categories: argumentative, expository, narrative, and descriptive essays. This class will work in groups to determine category and subject and work collaboratively to complete a short essay.

All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
