From the vibrant beadwork of Africa to the intricate silver designs of India, jewelry tells powerful stories of culture, history, and identity. In this hands-on, creative class, students will take a global journey through the world of traditional jewelry-making. Each class, we will explore the unique styles, materials, and symbolism behind adornments from different countries and cultures—including regions in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
Students will dive into the cultural significance of jewelry as personal expression, social status, spiritual symbol, and artistic heritage. Alongside rich discussions and visual explorations, students will apply what they’ve learned by crafting their own inspired pieces using a variety of materials and techniques such as wirework, beading, weaving, and metalwork.
This class is designed to build both technical skills and cultural awareness. Students will leave not only with a collection of handcrafted jewelry, but also with a deeper appreciation for global artistry and the rich traditions behind what we wear.
No prior experience is needed—just a love for creativity, exploration, and culture!
