Minecraft: Ancient Civilization
Our modern world owes every technological advancement we enjoy today to the ancient civilizations that came before us: the wheel, fire, leather clothing, simple tools, and much more. What better way to explore the foundations of the human experience, and ancient civilizations, than through the power of Minecraft!
Outcomes:
Throughout the year, we will go around the world looking at the oldest, most influential civilizations in ancient times: from Mesopotamia to ancient Greece, the Mayan and Aztecs, and every group of peoples in between. All the while creating our very own!
Class Activities:
Students will have the opportunity to:
create their own civilization in Minecraft, which includes: building structures, managing resources, creating mythologies and folklore, understanding the land, and more
occasional readings
class discussions
presentations: about their civilization, and about ancient civilizations
various group activities
Materials:
Students must bring a laptop (or console like a Switch) with the game already installed, to class every day. We will always have some time to play Minecraft as we explore these ancient worlds!
We also recommend enrolling in Simulations: History in Action, an immersive companion course that allows students to experience history firsthand through large-scale simulations, role-playing, debates, strategy games, diplomacy, and interactive historical challenges. Students step into the roles of leaders, citizens, explorers, inventors, and revolutionaries as they navigate the major events and civilizations that shaped the world.
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
