This course is designed to empower students with the confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills needed to speak effectively and persuasively in a variety of settings. Whether you're new to public speaking or a seasoned orator, this class offers valuable tools for clear expression, thoughtful argumentation, and respectful dialogue.
Students will explore the fundamentals of effective speech, including voice, body language, structure, and style. They will write and deliver a variety of speeches—informative, persuasive, impromptu, and dramatic—as well as engage in structured debates on current issues, historical controversies, and ethical dilemmas.
Students will be introduced to a variety of debate formats, including Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, and Parliamentary styles, with opportunities to participate in mock debates and in-class competitions.
Class activities include:
Crafting and presenting original speeches
Participating in team and individual debates
Practicing spontaneous speaking and rebuttal techniques
Learning research and reasoning strategies
Analyzing famous speeches and rhetorical styles
Exploring real-world issues through civil discourse
In addition to developing public speaking and analytical skills, students will gain confidence, learn to listen actively, and refine their ability to communicate ideas clearly and respectfully.
This course encourages leadership, creativity, and intellectual curiosity—whether you're preparing for college, competitions, community involvement, or simply want to find your voice and use it powerfully.

All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
