Student Leadership

Student Leadership is a hands-on, project-based course designed to develop confident, capable, and service-oriented student leaders through real-world leadership experiences at Love of Learning Academy.  Using principles from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and related leadership frameworks, students will develop personal responsibility, communication skills, teamwork, initiative, and professional leadership habits as they plan and execute meaningful school and community events.

The course emphasizes leadership through action, reflection, and collaboration.  Students will engage in entrepreneurship, marketing, organization, event coordination, and project management while contributing directly to the growth and culture of the Love of Learning community through leadership roles connected to the student store, campus events, improvement projects, and service opportunities.

Students will have opportunities to serve as project managers for school activities and events, gaining valuable experience in leadership, organization, delegation, communication, budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.  Through creative problem solving, professional communication, and collaborative decision-making, students will learn how effective leadership positively impacts both individuals and communities.

Enrollment in Student Leadership is limited. Students must complete an interview with Ms. Frizzle prior to approval for enrollment (interviews will be scheduled after enrollment is received).   Because leadership activities extend beyond regular class responsibilities, students should expect a significant time commitment related to planning, setup, management, and attendance at monthly events and activities.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will:

  • develop leadership habits rooted in responsibility, initiative, and integrity
  • strengthen communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • apply principles from The 7 Habits to academic, personal, and leadership situations
  • demonstrate effective teamwork and problem-solving strategies
  • plan, organize, and execute Love of Learning community events
  • build organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • develop entrepreneurial thinking through the student store and fundraising opportunities
  • practice marketing, branding, and promotional design skills
  • learn professional procedures for meetings, planning, and event coordination
  • grow confidence in public speaking, leadership roles, and decision-making
  • contribute positively to the Love of Learning culture and community
  • reflect on personal growth and leadership development through ongoing self-assessment

Activities

Students will participate in collaborative leadership challenges, event-planning committees, campus improvement, service-learning projects, and entrepreneurial activities related to the student store and campus programs.  Class activities may include marketing campaigns, promotional design, budgeting and inventory organization, leadership workshops, team-building exercises, communication practice, public speaking, meeting facilitation, and project management tasks.

Students may also take on leadership roles as project managers for selected events and activities, overseeing planning, delegation, scheduling, coordination, and execution responsibilities.  Students will engage in discussions and reflections on The 7 Habits and other leadership principles, applying these concepts to authentic leadership opportunities within the Love of Learning community.

Materials

Students are expected to bring a notebook or binder and writing utensils, and to have access to a laptop or computer for research, communication, writing, and presentations.
